Tissue from an onion is a good first exercise in using the microscope and viewing plant cells. The cells are easily visible under a microscope and the preparation of a thin section is straight forward. An onion is made of layers, each separated by a thin skin or membrane. In this exercise you will make a wet mount on a microscope slide and look.   Measure each type of liquid into one of the seven plastic cups. We used 8 ounces of each. Depending on the size of your glass container, you may need more or less of each liquid. The key is to use the same amount of each while also filling up the container. Measure the same amount of each liquid into different cups. Image source: iStockPhoto. Record the temperature at which the liquid in the test tube boils freely, then remove the burner. In addition to boiling freely, look at the top of the test tube for condensation on the glass tubing. That means your unknown liquid has been boiling sufficiently to send vapors to the top of the test tube. Clean the cover of your book. Wipe a paper or matte-finished cover with a soft cloth or a dry cleaning pad (available at art supply stores). If your book is leather-bound, rub petroleum jelly over the cover with the soft cloth and then buff it to achieve a “like-new” shine. On a glossy cover, you can use a glass cleaner, but make sure to.

When you pour the liquid into a cup, it takes on the shape of the container. This is one of a liquid’s properties. Another property of a liquid is its viscosity – how easily it can be deformed and how fast or slow it flows.

Stacking Five Liquids. Now that we’ve established the densities of the liquids, we can layer even more liquids. Place the liquids in order of their density. Pour the most dense (highest sugar content) drink into a glass. Slowly pour the liquid with the next greatest density into the glass.

Slowly pour the drink down the side of the glass. If you decide to pour several different liquids into a bucket, you could compare the densities of the liquids by looking at where they sit in the bucket. Let's take a look. A s with the prior metrics, it is important to note that average trade sizes, as a standalone measure, are an incomplete measure of liquidity.
